You are invited to participate in a global project connecting children through music.

We hope to provide the support of music through practice and celebration to give the children ages 4-18 enrolled at the Youth and Children’s Center, Kropyvnytskyi Ukraine a break from the traumas of war. This goal will be achieved through:

1.Daily / weekly practice singing and playing music individually or in community

2. Joy and delight of a shared musical experience when the music is mixed and shared in an online concert celebration in mid December.

Our hope is to build solidarity and support, connections and understanding, empathy and friendship, through this musical connection.

I invite you to learn more about the project at an introductory meeting and contribute your ideas towards the creation and path of the project between teachers in Ukraine and participating schools in both Maine and participating states and countries.

At the introductory meeting we will set a timeline, share goals and consider the various challenges we might face.

The starting idea from Ukrainian music teachers at the Youth and Children’s Center, is for all participants to learn the lyrics of the song Hey, Hey, Rise Up (see below). All interested groups will learn this song in Ukrainian (supported through a teacher training on zoom in early September by the teachers at the art center). After practicing each group will contribute their final recording to be digitally mastered and shared. All schools participating will be added to the digital mix and included in this project. We will share the ‘digital’ concert in a live zoom between all participating schools.

We also invite you to share a song of your class’s choice and a digital album of collected songs will be available to all that participate in the project.
