A Resources & Information Zine
Share What Helps: A Resources & Information Zine
What Do You Know That Someone Else Might Need?
Information can become a form of care when it reaches someone at the moment they need it.
Our second invitation is to create a zine that shares resources or information.
Think about the knowledge you have gathered through your professional work, personal experience, community, family, or life circumstances.
What might be useful to someone else?
Your Zine Could Include:
Practical coping strategies.
Helpful community resources.
Ideas for caregivers.
Grounding or breathing exercises.
Information for parents or educators.
Important phone numbers or organizations.
Books, websites, or services you have found useful.
Ideas for supporting someone during a difficult period.
Lessons you have learned that you wish someone had shared with you earlier.
The goal does not have to be to provide all the information about a subject.
Instead, ask:
What information is important enough that I want someone else to remember it?
You might create something as simple as:
5 Things That Help Me When I Feel Overwhelmed
or
Resources I Wish Every Caregiver Knew About
or
What I Have Learned About Supporting Children During Stress
Knowledge Can Travel
A zine is small enough to share.
One person can read it and pass it to another.
Someone can photograph it.
A teacher can create one with students.
A helping professional can invite a group to make a collection.
A community can create its own resource library.
Information then becomes more than information.
It becomes something people give to one another.
What do you know that might make someone else’s day, work, or life a little easier?
Put it into a zine.
About This Exercise
This creative exercise was introduced by Dr. Joe Mageary during VELA Well-being’s seminar, “Reflections on Identity: Working Towards Community Based Resilience,” as an art therapy-inspired approach to exploring identity, supporting emotional expression and healing, and fostering community resilience.
